What To Do With Worn Out Socks

<img src="http://www.frugal-living-now.com/images/holeysocks.jpg" width="240" height="320"
align="left" vspace="17" hspace="7">

Have holey socks? If you wear nail polish, old cotton socks with holes in them or stretched out elastic make perfect cloths for removing nail polish. I was frustrated trying to find something to use when taking off nail polish - I don't wear it on my fingers, but I usually keep my toe nails polished.

I don't like the way cotton balls fall apart and leave streaks of cotton behind. And you have to use so many of them to get the polish off well.

Paper towels don't work well, either. It is either because they are too thin to hold much polish remover, or they are not rough enough to give the friction you need to remove the polish thoroughly; I'm not sure which.

I was temped to use a washcloth, but I didn't want to ruin any of my washcloths (although old worn out ones would work quite well).

Then I thought of the socks - I found a pair that was on its last leg and tried it. It worked great! I didn't need to use much remover because the cotton absorbed enough to use on several toes. It had the right about of texture to rub the polish off easily. Plus, it can be washed and used again and again for this purpose.

Hooray for re-purposing!

As much as I believe in meal planning, I have had trouble sticking with it. I just hate having to sit down and think of meals to serve for the next 7 (or 14, or 30) days!

I have come up with a solution that works for me. It is a small thing, but it makes a big difference!

Since I am a 'list' person, I love to make lists. About a month ago I listed the meals that we like to eat at home in general categories: chicken, pasta, beef, etc. When I was done I had 28 meals - almost a month's worth! I printed out a blank calendar and plugged the meals into the days of the month filling in the few extra days with "leftovers" or "go out to eat". It was painless, and my grocery shopping for the last few weeks (since the new menu went into practice) has been so much easier!
