Feb 17, Renew Your Fleece!

Thank you to my brother, Joe, for this tip on removing unsightly lint from fleece:

"You know the little pills (ugly, fuzzy little balls) that show up on fleece after you wash it? I have several fleece pullovers that I really like, but I always try not to get them dirty,
because I know if I wash them they will look terrible afterward. Well the other day I finally had to wash my favorite one, and sure enough it looked awful after. I took it to the (vacuum repair) shop with me and with nothing to lose decided to try some things. They make little pill shavers, but I didn't want to have to buy one if I didn't have to. I found something that not only worked amazingly well at getting the pills off, but also
groomed the entire surface to a new looking finish, and most people probably already have one, if they have a discount store vacuum cleaner. It's a small hand held power nozzle. They put them on most of the Hoover, Dirt Devil, Bissell, and Eureka vacuums now, and most people never use them. It's perfect for this application because it not only works well, but it's easy, and impossible to damage the fabric. Because they are air driven, if you accidentally let it suck up too much fabric it just bogs down and stops."

Try this and my other tips on Frugal Fashion to save money by keeping the clothes you have new-looking!
Jan 29, Quick and Easy Lunch from Leftover Chicken

I had some chicken and a few noodles left over from dinner last night, and came up with this idea for a tasty lunch. It only took me 10 minutes to make it, and it is very tasty!

All you need is:
leftover chicken, cut into strips or cubes
1 tablespoon butter
one stalk of celery, chopped
one green onion, chopped
cooked macaroni or other noodles (with or without cheese)
1 tablespoon of white wine or vermouth (you can use chicken broth if you don't have any wine)
Parmesan cheese

Melt the butter in a pan and saute the celery and onion for 5 minutes while you chop up the chicken. (Some red pepper would have been good and looked pretty in this, but I didn't have any - use some bell pepper of any color is you have it.) Stir in the chicken and warm it a little, then add the noodles. Stir everything up and then pour the wine in and cover the pan. Cook for another couple of minutes until everything is hot. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and it is ready to eat! Yummy!

Jan 19, A Word About Shopping Warehouse and Dollar Stores

A common frugal living idea is shopping at bulk item (warehouse) stores, or stores where everything sells
for a dollar. You can find good deals at these stores, but you need to keep your eyes open. Dont
assume that just because you are in a store where everything is a dollar that everything is a good deal!
I have seen many items in dollar stores for a dollar that sell for LESS than a dollar at regular grocery
or variety stores. (For example, a 32 ounce bottle of Clorox bleach that I later saw that the grocery
store for 89 cents or a can of White Rain hairspray that sells for 79 cents elsewhere.)

Also, be careful
in those bulk stores that charge a membership fee. While they have excellent prices on many things, you
need to be aware of what a good price for a particular item is, so that you can recognize a rip-off when
you see it.
