Wedding Consignment: Don't get sentimental - Sell your wedding dress

by Mandy
(Melbourne, Australia)

When I got married my budget for my wedding dress was $1000. When I started to go out and look for something I couldn't find anything I liked.

I didn't want to compromise on this, it was one of the things I'd put on my 'important' list as opposed to my 'not so important list' (which I was more than willing to compromise on).

Anyway, what I did do as a compromise (and I'm not overly sentimental) is wear my wedding dress, and then the following week I took it to a second hand wedding store and got them to sell it on consignment.

I knew I would have no problems selling my dress there as it was modern and very much 'what everyone was wearing now' kinda style.

Within six months (waiting for the buyer to finish their lay-by option) the dress was sold and I received a cheque for $750.00, which meant I got the dress I wanted and it cost me under my original budget of $1000.

And for those that are a bit sentimental, do you really want to be stuck with a big box under your bed or in your cupboard forever, when you're never going to wear it again anyway? Think about it..... a photo tells 1000 words!

Good advice!

Thank you for that idea, Mandy! I have never considered this option, but it is true - what a burden to have that box to store forevermore!
